In India the alliance of Renault-Nissan experienced somewhat mixed fortunes. The much hyped budget brand of Nissan ‘Datsun’ failed to compete well with its counterparts, whereas the premium brand Renault did exceedingly well with its budget cars and struggling to meet the current demand. The previous versions of Datsun Go and Go+ did not live up to the expectations. However, things will change with the launch of the all new DATSUN redi-GO from Nissan.

Datsun India has hit the Indian market from June first week with this all new compact hatchback car “redi-GO” made at the facility of Renault-Nissan Alliance located in Oragadam of Tamil Nadu. This much anticipated car has some stunning features at the most affordable price tag to hook its customers. It has the reasonable price tag of around 2.5 to 3.5 Lakh (will vary a little across the country). The Datsun redi-GO can be placed below the Datsun GO (hatchback) and GO+ (MPV) and suited for urban population looking for a budget car. It will surely spur the lower half of the Indian car market.

Datsun redi-GO has the similar CMF-A platform of the Renault Kwid. This is expected as both the cars are produced by the shared platform of Renault-Nissan alliance. However, design wise the look of the new redi-GO is totally different from the Kwid. The look of the redi-GO is more compact and taller compared to somewhat the muscular and squat structure of Renault.

The redi-GO has an appreciable ground clearance of 185mm. It has the urban cross design and you can consider it over costlier SUVs purely because of its ground clearance. Its smart design and stylish look will surely attract the young generation, the target audience of the car.

You can feel the design to be more aggressive with some dashing features such as the wide headlights, little narrow front sporting and the designer grille (somewhat familiar looking) and a hood, which is much more muscular. The front bumper of the car also accommodates a daytime running light DRLs mounted on it. Chiselled lines in the sides give the car a perfect nice look. The same can be said about the rear, which is neat as well as appealing with tail lights that are well proportioned and fits with the taller body design. The only thing missing is the absence of alloy wheels in both standard and top variants of the car.

The taller design of DATSUN redi-GO allows much more headspace to the passengers and gives them a sense of roominess inside the car. This clearly makes you to get in and out of the car easier, one of the biggest highlights of this amazing machine.

On the engine front, it is powered by the identical petrol engine of the Kwid. It has 800cc three-cylinder engine producing 54PS of power along with a torque of 72Nm. Later the redi-GO will get bigger, 1.0-litre engine as well as AMT, same as for Kwid. However, the change will not take place immediately in the near future. Overall, it is a glam car to have at a reasonable price tag.
