The Lovely View of Henry Island

Henry Island

Henry Island is a nice place to be. Usually, people used to come here after visiting Bakkhali as the two places are very close by. Alternatively, one can think of staying at Henry Island itself and visit Bakkhali from here. The West Bengal Fishery Department has made a good hotel here and one can book a room in advance by contacting the West Bengal Fishery Department in Bikash Bhavan (in the North Block), Kolkata. Always try to book this hotel or the West Bengal State tourist lodge in Bakkhali well in advance, if you want the best staying pleasure in Bakkhali. There are plenty of private hotels and new ones are appearing each day, but it is a remote area, thus lack quality infrastructure in most of the private hotels. The safety issue is also there if you are going in small groups (or a single family).

In Henry Island the Fishery Department built tourist lodge complex in the name of the trees of the famous mangrove forest “Sundarban” in the Bay of Bengal, Sundori. Only Non AC rooms are available when I traveled, but I am not sure about the status now. You can always check with their website (http://www.wbfisheries.gov.in/wbfisheries).

Henry Island

The Fishery Department of Wes Bengal tried to produce a man made mangrove forest (a replica of Sunderban) here (without the animals). The above pictures are part of that. I had given another one in an earlier post of mine (http://debnature.blogspot.in/2015/06/the-henry-island.html). There is a nice watchtower in Henry Island that gives an exciting panoramic view of the place. Moreover, it has a wonderful beach with white sand and plenty of red crabs larking around. You cannot bath in the beach though as it is strictly prohibited. The place is very serene and ideal for bird watching and photography. This is a perfect weekend destination away from the city crowd. I will share the picture of the crabs in my next post for sure.
