How Do Mosquitoes Find You to Bite?

Do you know that the mosquitoes can find you through smell from a distance of over 40-50 meters? Only the female mosquitoes need to bite you as they require iron and protein from the sucked blood to produce new eggs. The male mosquitoes do not need your blood to survive as they do not produce eggs. The female mosquitoes have sensory organs capable of finding the sources of lactic acid and carbon dioxide. Through the presence of these two chemicals they can locate the presence of warm-blooded organisms such as humans. The amount of lactic acid and carbon dioxide is proportional to the body surface area. So, bigger the body you have more visible you are to mosquitoes. Thus, adults are more prone to mosquito bites than children.
