Any success quotes from famous personalities will fit perfectly on Savitri Kashyap, the tribal girl, who cracked one of the toughest examinations of the country, the IIT JEE, against all odds in her life.
Savitri cracked one of the most prestigious engineering examinations in the country, the IIT JEE and secured an all-India rank of 1,135 while residing in Kurandi village, Bastar district, Chhattisgarh. She is now the source of inspiration and motivation to the youth in her locality, specifically girls.
However, this amazing feat of Savitri would not have been possible without the help from the ‘Prayas Programme’ by the Chhattisgarh Government. It is a special coaching initiative by the tribal welfare department of Chhattisgarh. Even two years ago Savitri, had no money to buy necessary study materials and books. She got the admission to ‘Prayas Programme’ after clearing the entrance examination conducted by the state department. She got all the support, inspiration and resources through ‘Prayas Programme’ to accomplish her dream.
But, it was her determination; hard work and perseverance that ultimately helped her achieve the glory or success of cracking the IIT mains. Along with Savitri nine more students from ‘Prayas Programme’ cracked the IIT mains, considered to be one of the most difficult examinations for engineering aspirants.
The strong resolve of Savitri was proved once again when she became the only one to crack the IIT Advance Examination from ‘Prayas Programme’. Her high ambition, determination and hard-work make her stand out even with limited resources available in this remote area.
Savitri has the dream to study in IIT Kharagpur, one of the top 51 institutes in Asia having many renowned personalities as Alumni.
Savitri’s parents should also be given the due credit, despite being uneducated they worked tirelessly to provide every possible support from their end for their children’s education. They have a total of seven children (six daughters and a son) who all are receiving formal education.
The poor family only had 10 acres of land to cultivate and manage basic living. They do not have any other sources of income. However, that did not stop Mahadev Kashyap, father of Savitri to give every possible effort in grooming his children into successful as well as responsible citizens of India.
We from KenFolios, salute their spirits and mettle for spending their life till date in huts (earthen houses) without having any form of lavishness or luxuries, yet providing education for all their children including the six daughters.
It is because of their sacrifice that today three of their daughters is well placed in respectable government jobs.
Credit should also be given to the government of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh for launching The Prayas programme in July 2010. Through this programme several meritorious students from different districts with Left Wing Extremism (LWE) and other tribal areas identified and kept in tribal hostels located in the state capital, where they were provided with the regular studies at the higher secondary level as well as coaching for competitive examinations.
