Book Review: The Bestseller She Wrote

The Bestseller She Wrote
I am an avid follower of Ravi Subramanian’s novels and make it a point to read them as soon as possible whenever a new novel arrives on the market. This time round I am fortunate to receive a signed copy of the author’s new novel “The Bestseller She Wrote” through Bolgadda. As usual Ravi Subramanian has not disappointed his readers at all and come up with a gripping potboiler. It is a perfect Indian thriller with the central character being a bank executive as well as a famous novelist whose wife (the heroine or female lead) is a classical Indian housewife. The negative character is played by an ambitious female character with her devious mind and ready to use her beauty to reach her goals. As a typical vamp she is ready to shed her clothes as well as per demand of the story line.

I think the above paragraph is well enough for every Ravi Subramanian fan to grab a copy of “The Bestseller She Wrote”. However, if you still want to know more about the plot, then let me enlighten a bit more.

Basically, it is a triangular love story where the hero, Aditya Kapoor is a successful bank executive and famous writer with a happy married life. His wife is Maya, a teacher by profession in a reputed international school and loves to engage herself in social initiatives organized by her schools in the slum areas of Dharavi, Mumbai.

Emergence of Shreya, an IIM Bengaluru graduate dismantles the perfect life of Aditya Kapoor. For Shreya achieving success is the only motto of life and means of getting there is secondary. The drama starts unfolding with Shreya plays the perfect role of a vamp. I do not want to elaborate more on the plot, but it has all the excitement and emotion for a successful Bollywood movie with a happy ending. The copyright of the novel has already been bought by Anurag Kashyap and that clearly contributed towards the plot.

Ravi Subramanian perfectly understands his reader’s minds and knows the art of making a novel a grand success. The novel is really an exciting read having the perfect spicy mix. It is fast, thrilling as well as gripping. It has some masala of sex that will be fitting for its Bollywood version. The story also shares some moral values through lectures from the hero itself. Hope this lecture will be one the main attraction in its movie version.
In short, “The Bestseller She Wrote” can be regarded as the perfect cocktail of sex, thrill and moral that will get you hooked to it. It is a page turner indeed. However, do not expect anything thought provoking or characters that will keep a long lasting effect on your mind. Consider it as a Bollywood masala film where the audience should not always carry their brains inside the movie complex. “The Bestseller She Wrote” ideally meant for entertainment and it suits its role wonderfully well. I will recommend every thriller lover to grab a copy of “The Bestseller She Wrote” by Ravi Subramanian.
