After reading the national bestseller The Game of Life – Rise of the Sun Prince I was eagerly waiting for the next sequel. So when I got the opportunity to review this very book The Game of Life – Shattered Dreams, I was just overjoyed. You may know that The Game of Life is the new addition to the spiritual series Ramayana by Shubha Vilas. The first part ended with the royal wedding of Rama and Sita in Ayodhya. This sequel starts after twelve joyous years of that wedding have passed.
The Shattered Dreams meticulously describes the enthralling drama that ended with the exile of Rama. The book reveals the mysterious and resolute personality of Rama to us through narrations of various stories that helps us understand the ways of handling negative energies.
At the same time the action taken by Bharat tells us how to overcome serious temptations and remain humble. We also get a vivid picture of the courage shown by Sita that can motivate us to move beyond our comfort zone. In short, it gives a clear insight of human relationships. How human relations work and where they fall short?
The Synopsis
Twelve long and joyful years has passed since the majestic wedding between Ram and Sita. The romantic life between Ram and Sita was nicely depicted by Shubha Vilas. The Shattered Dreams covers the entire episode of the planned exile of Rama from Ayodhya to the forest and the effort of Bharat to bring Ram back to Ayodhya. Though the story is known to almost every Indian, still Shubha Vilas made it sure that the readers kept glued to the book with his extraordinary zeal of writing.
As everybody is quite aware of the storyline of Ramayana, I will not go into the details of the plot The Shattered Dreams. The story continues with Dasharatha’s decision of making Rama ruler of Ayodhya followed by Manthara’s weaving of malicious scheme to dethrone Rama and sent him to the forest for fourteen years. The book ends with the failed attempt of Bharat to bring Rama back.
But, apart from the storyline it is the message conveyed in the book that is more important and gives the readers some thought provoking points.
The book clearly gives an idea about how to keep the positive energy flowing even at the most trying situations of life, the ideal way to behave with the others and how to get detached at the times of joy or sorrow. This book is no doubt a lesson for life to every individual. Every incident of this book has some strong message towards us and these are clearly explained in lucid languages with proper examples.
Conclusion
With the able guidance of Valmiki’s Ramayana, the Shattered Dreams skilfully interlinked other philosophy and tales of Ramayana (Ramacharitramanas, Kamba Ramayana, Loka Pramana tales) to show how this epic from ancient India is still very much relevant in our modern world.
The Shattered Dreams is a rear toast to the mythology lovers, who will definitely go through a never before experience. I will rate this book as 4 out of 5.
